Today we need to talk about something serious. Plastic straws. I know what you’re all thinking “Whats wrong with straws?”

So let me tell you… (I created a little powerpoint presentation and will share it here for you) This is whats wrong:

Help by sharing your sustainable straw selfie.

I am hoping to raise awareness and encourage as many people as I can to use sustainable straws rather than single use plastic ones. So, whether you already have a re usable straw at home, or you plan to buy one, take a selfie of you with it. You could be drinking, or even just holding a cup with a re usable straw in it. Then hashtag #sustainablestrawselfie and spread the word! (You can link back to this blog post if you wish or you can tag me @liana_kathryn on instagram as I would love to see your photos) Have fun! Do a funny selfie! Do a selfie with your whole family! What ever you want!

Here are my first two #sustainablestrawselfie! One from today with my water, and one from yesterday with my smoothie for breakfast!  I will be sharing more on my instagram

glass straw

Remember, share your selfie on any form of social media, and inform your friends about this sneaky villain!

Im using my re usable glass straw from my friends at Shop Naturally. I have the purple gecko on grey glass straw which I love and you will be seeing lots more photos of soon!

Research from:

I hope you enjoyed and I look forward to seeing your selfies!

Liana Kathryn!

  • Bernadette - Awesome work Liana! I’m going to get some real straws this week! You’ve inspired me! xReplyCancel

    • Liana - Thanks Bernadette! You should get some straws – they also make it more fun to drink water which is always a good thing if you can have more!ReplyCancel

  • Renee Bell | Little Girls With Great Big Dreams - Liana, this is such an amazing post! You have done a fabulous job with the research and the presentation!
I am really happy that you are trying to get more people aware of the dangers of plastic to the environment, so proud of you and I do think your gecko straw is just adorable!
Keep up the great blog posts!
    Love you!!! Mum xxReplyCancel

  • Rachel - Wow ! I currently only use recyclable plastic or paper straws but j think the glass and Ss sound great. Thanks for all that info liana, it makes you stop and think how damaging all those little plastic straws we think nothing about usually are actually damaging our environment!

    • Liana - that’s OK! re usable plastic straws and paper straws are ok, but paper straws can only be used once and plastic straws still have heaps of chemicals in them. glass and SS straws are definitely best!ReplyCancel

  • Elaine Corbett - I’m luck I don’t use straws. This is because I don’t
drink much. Not much fun drinking coffee through a straw.ReplyCancel

  • Jodie - What a great post!! Good on you for sharing the word about plastic straws and how they harm the environment. I will be buying glass straws like you suggest!ReplyCancel

Today I’m going to be sharing with you some epic, back to school essentials from Shop Naturally!

back to school lunch essentials

I love all off these, and that leaves me with one of the hardest choices I have ever had to make….. Which ones to choose.

(^^^^^ over exaggeration^^^^^)

My review: the best back to school lunch essentials…

I had to choose which colour insulated lunch bag, and which drink bottle I wanted to have this year… With some help from my wonderful Instagram friends, I have decided that my favorite was the patterned drink bottle!

But wait! There is more!!
What about all the things to go inside the lunch bag? (and I still haven’t told you what colour I chose yet, hehe!)

inside insulated lunch bag
Last year I had a Lunchbots cinco bento box (you can read that post here) and I really really love it. But I wanted to get one a little bit smaller this year for the days when I take a lot of fruit that I don’t want to cut up to go in the compartments.  So I got this one with the awesome orange lid!  Did you know stainless steel lunch boxes are really good because then there is no plastic touching your food!  That means no chemicals absorbing into your food which is pretty important:)

I kept with the same insulated lunch bag as I had last year because it was so awesome – and if you want to see what colour I decided to go with ….. You will see when you get a little further down this post…..

That green pouch thing – I guess you are wondering what that is??  Well — it is an ice pack with a cover over it so it doesn’t make your food all wet!  Good for keeping things cool in summer!

And I went with the stainless steel drink bottle with the awesome flower pattern pouch. The pouch is made from neoprene which is what wetsuits are made out of! Cool hey!
Other things I have are little stainless steel containers (to put my hummus in – yum yum!!) and some cutlery made from bamboo for when I need a knife or fork or spoon to eat my lunch with!

Are you ready….
I chose black:):):)

As I mentioned earlier, these are all amazing products and I cant wait to show them off at school… On that note, how quick have the holidays gone? I mean, I’m exited to go back, but I feel like the holidays need to be longer ( Even though we get a whole 6 weeks 😐 )

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day, and a fantastic time looking at my blog! Remember, if you wish to purchase or get more info on any of these products, you can just click the links (they will turn green) and be taken to another website to view the items.

Are you having a nice day? No? It is pretty rainy the last few days here in Newcastle so I could understand if you weren’t having a good day!  I don’t mind the rain though – it means I can keep working on my blog! yay!

Anyways – even if you are having a good or a bad day, this is the post for you. Its all about… COLOR!

I’ve gathered up some of my most favorite most colorful edits of photos that Mum and I took in 2015 and put them in a grid for you to enjoy!

Hope you like

Colorful :)

Look at this pink one!
This is a series of a style called “candy coloured photos” that you might have seen on Instagram. I will teach you more about it later.

Here is a “faceless” one.

This one is called “holding”!

I would love to hear from you – please comment below your favorite image!
Also what is your favourite colour? Mine is really all of them, but if I had to choose then it would be green. Lime green.

See…. I love lime green so much I made a hat out of a lime tree branch that broke off!!!

liana kathryn blog app reviews

Today I’m doing my FIRST app review:)

Here are the details of the app I am reviewing:

  • App name: Phonto
  • App cost: free (with some add-ons that cost extra)
  • Social media: Phontograph
  • Website: phonto
  • Category: Photo and video

Phonto is by far one of my favorite apps to use on my iPod.

It is a very simple app used for applying text to photos, and its the simplicity that makes it amazing. Some of the things that I really like about this app, and what I think makes it an awesome app are:

The abundance of fonts, plus the ability to edit things like brightness and saturation makes it an extremely useful app.

The ability to apply gradients and patterns to text is helpful if you want to make your work stand out from the rest. I also like that it gives you some preset gradients to start off with, while also giving you the option to save the ones you have made and plan to use more than once. The amount of colors offered could be more, but this app already has so much that it makes up for it.

As I mentioned, the abundance of fonts is amazing, and although I have not used it yet, the feature that allows you to download your own fonts is pretty cool also. I really love the option to apply outlines, curve and tilt your writing because it just adds that little but of spark to your work.

The only things that I dislike about the app is the ads, but you can pay for the version that has no ads and it is only $1.49. There are also some options that you can buy like extra fonts, filters etc. Although there is not that much to buy, the 3D option sounds awesome and I would like to try it some day… 😐

Here are some of my favorite fonts. I went through and applied a pink, purple, aqua, green and blue gradient to all of them

Here is another one:

This is an amazing app, and I am pleased to announce that I will not be rating apps with stars, but with rubber duckies!!!
I hereby award this app four and a half out of five rubber duckies! I hope you enjoyed this review, and recommend that you get the app.

If you have any apps that you would like me to review (preferably free:)  ), please comment below!
